Retro Electro Workshop
I've just seen this announcement about a new TV series coming our way.
https://www.seenit.co.uk/uktv-commis...r-enthusiasts/ It will be interesting to see how they take this on - will it be aimed at the likes of us or a more general audience? |

Re: Retro Electro Workshop
Official announcement:
https://corporate.uktv.co.uk/news/ar...ctro-workshop/ 10 x 60 minutes (so around 45-50 minutes plus adverts) and it will air in 2023 but no dates yet. I suspect it will be more factual than The Repair Shop but not as in-depth as things like the Mend It Mark YouTube channel. They need to get the balance right, and Yesterday seem to be good at that with their own commissioned shows. I’m looking forward to it. |

Re: Retro Electro Workshop
I hate to suggest this, but is he working on cadmium-plated chassis with some white corrosion product on it .
Certainly looks like an interesting series. B

Re: Retro Electro Workshop
It might still be a disappointment for Forum members who [understandably] will look for greater depth but the production company seems to have taken a punt on what they see as a possible gap in the fairly lively retro market. The balance will be crucial as said. Is anyone from here involved? Yesterday is a pretty good channel on the technical side overall, so I'm optomistic. Getting anything out there at this level should be a positive for vintage repair and restoration I suppose.

Re: Retro Electro Workshop
Thing is - who is Rob Howard ? Is he known & respected in Vintage Radio/Electronics circles ? And/or a BVWS, or VMARS, or Forum member ?
As long as this program doesn't have the same annoying drippy-drooly format as Repair Shop, then it looks jolly promising going by the array of test equipment shown in the picture. Hopefully, they are not just props. I'm certainly looking forward to seeing it. It stands a good chance of encouraging younger folk into our vintage fraternity, and I'm all for that. Regards, David |

Re: Retro Electro Workshop
Oh dear. The would be grumbles have started already without a single programme being shown! Lighten up guys, enjoy! it's a programme about repairing vintage electronics!. Refrain from being too critical just because the format may not follow your own particular, idiosyncratic requirements (none of this, less of that etc). In any case, there's no way it's going to show in-depth 'component by component' restorations because to do so would simply take too much time. Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth!

Re: Retro Electro Workshop
Exactly Steve. Some people will be looking for things to criticise when it is broadcast too, instead of accepting it for what it is.
At this point I'm closing the thread until a broadcast date is known. |

Interesting new TV programme being trailed
I have been seeing recently trailers on UK TV for a programme called
Retro Tech Workshop. It looks as though it could be of interest to forum members.

Re: Vintage tech repair programme due to be aired
I see the star of the show is described as "One of the last remaining full-time repairmen"
I guess there are a good few more of us still around on this forum. Looks interesting... David. |

Quote:
It's a telly programme, they have to try to get some drama into something where 95% of viewers who watch it will think there's not much going on. If it makes the screen, I don't think it will last very long. |

Re: Vintage tech repair programme due to be aired
I am optimistic, and not completely sure why. It will at the very least be something to chew over, even if it's dreadful. I suspect that if it's superior, there would be less to discuss!

Re: Vintage tech repair programme due to be aired
All "tech" things on TV that I've ever seen are definitely not aimed at anyone with much actual technical knowledge.

Still can't find a start date for this series, though a work colleague mentioned seeing a trailer for it a few days ago.
