They are common in Australia.
I have a few.
Two X 0 - 30 mA.
two by 0 - 30 V.
65 mm square faces.
I can supply photos if needed.
Made by Paton Instruments Australia, read, VERY high quality.

PM if interested.

These are not backlit. It may be possible to do so. I have seen them backlit, but I think it requires a different bezel in front of the meter face.

Is it front lit, from the back via the rather ingenious front bezel?

Yes just a quick trial with a 12v minature bulb and 9v battery and just placed in back to see what result I got-as piccy shows quite pleased at the moment as its just a temp before commiting to drill and grommeting etc

The look of the things is modern-power-station-chic which sort of jars on the panel of something more classical.

But if that's all that seems to be made...

Yes David spot on! Its a look we like and next week we start fabricating a psu with enclosure etc so pics will follow I do have a layout in pdf form from my customer so shall post that up later and see what people reckon.I also like the round bezel version specially the brown type VU meters very old school mixer desk and alike from the 70s.But we all like our vintage looks over hear just with some modern takes (Subtley done) and some great fun experimenting with trials and ideas on going,

You might want to look at the power supply and linear amplifier for the Hilberling amateur radio setup.

I met Hilberling at Dayton one year. He's a very decent chap. I don't speak German, He doesn't speak English. So there was a conversation on high dynamic range design and some of the tricks at HP, all done by hand gestures, equations and diagrams!

Great fun!

you can get lots of 50's style panel meters on ebay and aliexpress etc, I can't vouch for their accuracy or reliability!
If you want the industrial look with a custom dial, we have had ours made by Hobut (Howard Butler), custom scales and ranges being supplied as one-offs at a very reasonable rate.
