Default Gec BC5645 recovered from the dead

This radio was purchased for little money as the bakelite case was very badly damaged large hole the top. To begin with I thought I would scrap it, then after I had the radio working, the sound was so good, I thought I would have a go at the case, unfortunately I did not have a camera around to photograph the radio at the start, after rebuilding with car body filler and respray here she is now, not quite finished as I am missing a knob.

That looks superb! Excellent repair to the case, you'd never believe it had a hole in it.

Regards,
Paul

Looking at pictures on my phone I found these pictures of the case before repair, can not remember taking them.

Superb well done John the colour is in keeping as well ,can't remember taking them ! I have that trouble sometimes I blame it on the amber nectar.
Any chance of a close up and dia of the knob I may have one not sure . Mick.

Hi Mick
This is a thumbnail of the knob, it has a D spring clip and I would say a 4mm fitting diameter is 33mm , would be smashing if you have one,?

Good job with the cabinet, glad you decided not to scrap it, as they do sound very nice, especially on FM.
I am currently doing a similar job on a Marconi T18DA that was in several pieces, I will be happy if it turns out as well as yours!
Nice colour by the way, I think it looks better than original.

I did one of these a few years ago, and ISTR they used EF80/85's for the VHF rather than an ECC85. Not a bad performing set though as I recall.
The chassis was also very heavy in keeping with other GEC sets.

That's a smashing repair BTW. I wish I had the patience for that!
