Tuneons.
Do other members share my enthusiasm for the neon tuning indicator which had a brief reign from about 1935 until the cathode ray type came in by 1936? Correctly biased the indicator is as sensitive as the later type and many still are in operation nearly 80 years later. Even when silvered they still work and are quite spectacular to watch! Ultra & Ever Ready were the main users but not many now survive. There seems little comment or interest in them.

Re: Tuneons.
As a Cossor collector I have some equipment with Tuneons including a 365 and a universal bridge.
Cossor also suplied Tuneons to other manufaturers. Cheers Mike T

Re: Tuneons.
I rather like the idea for its simplicity and the elegant use of an amplifying valve's screen grid as a bridge with minimal interfacing. Must get hold of one of the ex-Soviet IN-13 tubes...

Re: Tuneons.
I have a Cossor 3180 and the (tatty) sheet of paper with it includes a basic circuit.

Yes, I have the Ultra 25 that uses one.

Re: Tuneons.
Great to see that original spec sheet Colin, thank you. Bias is often a bit of a problem to get the thing to strike reliably without any risk of overloading the tube, your sheet will be most useful!

Re: Tuneons.
Hi Hansomcommon,
There is a sheet on Frank's Tube Data site, but it contains less info than the tatty piece of paper packed with my 3180. |

Re: Tuneons.
Your radiogramme is superb Mark, I hope you can complete the restoration soon, Ultra wisely include a semi -variable resistor to set the tuneons bias so it will look good.
