Where to get valves; in Tokyo!
I stumbled across this little stall tucked down an alley in Akibhara, a district of Tokyo. Sadly the prices aren't cheap, they're about what you'd expect to pay in Britain, but he's got just about everything you'd ever want for audio, and plenty for radio and TV too!

Hi David, were there other stalls selling related goods when you were there?
I was there several years ago and the area was like Edgeware Rd / Lisle St in its hayday. I was particularly interested in a store that had all sorts of panelware, switches, meters, Leds etc. Ed |

For those who may ever visit, you turn right out of Akihabara station, then immediately right into an allyway full of these traders (it's on two floors!) I'm afraid I can't speak Japanese, so finding out any sort of contact details is practically impossible. However I do have the receipt for some valves: Tel: 03 (5294) 0301
And another from a stall selling output transformers: Tel: 03 (3255) 6589 To answer Ed's question, there are more stalls selling LEDs, meters, switches, transformers, chokes, output transformers, sockets, kits,..in fact every component you can imagine, than your heart could desire! All in one little laberinth of alleyways. Upstairs are a few stalls selling a pretty varied, and often weird selection of wireless sets and test equipment: http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...e/Cimg2069.jpg |

Re: Where to get valves; in Tokyo!
Yes, I can see at least six valve radios in that picture, most prominent of all is the 'clock face' Zenith of the early fifties just above the proprietors head. This must be a hot area for valve sets, particularly those colourful little mid-sixties Japanese types that were based on the 'all american five' design.
Given the enthusiasm for vintage radios in Japan, I have a greater urge to emigrate there . Neil

Even though they recycle 99% of unwanted electrical items, it's good to see that some of the old stuff is still valued. I like little shops like that, shame they're almost non-existent here now
