Default Accidentally removed Test Card C from Aurora.

Oh dear I've made a boo-boo.

While playing with the Aurora I held the options button down on position one and now have a mish mash of Emmerdale where testcard C should be.

I have a high quality good .jpeg of testcard C but when I copy it to a DVD and try to play it I just get a very poor mess with mashed up fHz gratings.

I have the Southwest Museum testcard DVD. These cards copy fine into the Aurora but the TCC has ITA as an ID I don't have a TCC without an ID.

It seems that the Aurora doesn't like the .jpeg's coming off my DVD player and is only happy with a video.

What do I do to get TCC back on the Aurora?

Thanks - Dave

Something like this happened to the Aurora I borrowed to test my TV22 but from memory the image in the Aurora was the wrong size. I had a copy of TCC and made it into a DVD using a video editing package and re-stored in the Aurora.

I'll check the TCC copy I have as to its resolution but if you PM me I'll send you my email address and you can send me the hi res copy and I'll put it on a DVD and send it back to you.

Thanks Keith. I put the .jpg into Nero and made a video slideshow DVD of it and it's fine. I can pause it now and grab it.

There's probably a far easier way to do it.

Sounds similar to the method I used, although I made a DVD with Test Cards C and F on, about 20mins of each.

Don't forget to wait for any pause symbols from the DVD to disappear otherwise they'll appear on the Aurora but I'm sure you don't need to be reminded of that).

You can download the file I use to flash the units here:

http://www.tech-retro.com/Aurora_Des...downloads.html

It's an uncompressed QT file so it's rather large, but it's full quality and correctly sized for a DVD.

Thanks Darryl. How do I use this? It either sticks on TCA or if I burn it to a DVD rushes through all the cards. I can't seem to get any control over it.

Dave
If you have full control over your authoring software you can have it auto pause at each frame, or just duplicated each frame to enough times to give you a few minutes of playback, and then make the start of each frame a chapter so you can go right to it.

Thanks David. The best TCC I have (which is pretty good) is 768X576 pixels. fHz right up to 3MHz.

If yours can outdo that I would be very grateful.

Hi.
I made up my own test card "C" by changing the "C" with MS Paint to my own logo. I then programmed my RT Russell testcard test card generator with it on 625 and used this to re-programme my auroras with this modified card..
It works 100% OK and of course the RT Russell generator can then be fed with a different pattern if need be.

Sorry to bump an old thread, it's been on my "round tuit" pile for ages

What are the recommended dimensions for images? Reason I ask is that I tried using 720x576 and the test card is narrower on units flashed with images recorded onto a DVD (I used it in play mode having recorded 5 minutes of each test card) than the unit I am retaining the original Test card C on (I need an accurate reference with regards to both size and greyscale so I won't change that one!) - The screen on my Sony has noticeable black bands either side with the flashed units.

I'm using Nero software to compile the DVD if that helps.

Also does anyone have an image of TCD with the BBC1 405 LINES ident?

Many thanks

Brian

To find out what the image size of any movie file is, just run
Code:
$ ffmpeg -i filename
It will die with an error, since you didn't specify an output file; but before it does that, it will helpfully spit out the vital statistics.
