Default Will a loop disconnect phone interfere with broadband?

After 21 happy years in my house still with 'officially' a hard wired phone (2 tone grey 746) but in reality running a 2+4 dollseye and 5 lovely bakelite phones around the house, the drop wire has failed and i have been converted to plug and socket.

now my question is..

if i go to broadband will the pulses from bakelite phones affect it?

These people say it will work:
http://www.antiquetelephones.abdyantiques.co.uk/faq.htm

but these guys in the USA found otherwise:
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...fm/376425.html

I just tried it by switching my desk phone to LD and the BB stayed working.

It works fine for me too - though thinking about it, I'm surprised that it does

I have several 200/300/700 series phones on my line, along with a BT Diverse cordless system plus broadband. Everything runs harmoniously (though because of the way the plug-in microfilters work, there is some bell tinkle on dialing).

BTW, do BT still charge you to rent your 746? If so, why not give it back and pick up an identical one for about £1 at any car boot sale?

Nick.

I suspect you'll get a bad data packet with each pulse, but this won't be obvious in normal use as it will just be resent. You should see the error count going up in the router though.

My Ericophon will dial out, ring (OK, buzz), and answer OK on my line with Broadband.

If you pick up a cheap 2nd hand PABX switch such as the Southwestern Bell Omicron (used to be stocked by RS) these will accept LD and automatically retransmit it as MF to the exchange.

I have been renting the 746 up till last week as that way they wouldn't come and convert me to plug and socket but now i have been done then i'll get broadband and then re-install the switchboard and carry on again. I know all about the ren etc and so i'll put in the resistor and i had already converted all the 300's to a modern mic. The engineer did think i was the last on my exchange that was still hard wired and thus still on a rotary dial

There's no real reason you shouldn't "convert" back to hard-wired if you prefer...

You could leave their new NTE5 master socket in situ, then simply connect all of your old system, as-is, to the "subsciriber's extension wiring" terminals (2 and 5) on the rear of the removable faceplate. Electrically, the set-up would be identical to what you had before. See here: http://www.adslnation.com/support/extensions.php

If you got broadband, just replace the front of the master socket with one of these: http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/Office+Su...sp?sku=TE04368

It takes 5 mins to install, then all your old wiring will have the broadband signal filtered out. And it's BT Approved

No Problems here, well other than having too many blasted phones ringing......

746, two homehub phones, one cordless, and the fax machine........

Nick's advice about using a splitter faceplate is good. Saves having microfilters dangling everywhere and will give best ADSL speed if you have a marginal line. I blagged mine off the BT guy who came to remove my Home Highway. A few years ago they were rare items now they're widely available. I googled "adsl splitter faceplate" and loads of hits including:

Mornin'

I removed the microfilters to see if the bell tinkling whilst dialing on my two 746 phones would stop and sure enough it did with no noticaeble effect on the internet. You do occasionally get some hissing on the phones.

Not recommended. You are probably close to the exchange and the modem/router isn't having to work too hard to give you decent speeds. Have you checked the sync speeds and error rates?

My 50's Tele 332 doesn't affect my BB at all.
