Sony TC377 What does this bit do?
See picture.
Apart from the obvious that it engages with the rewind reel, it seems to have lots of ledges and settings. the two plastic halves turn but the triangular metal piece does not move. Should it? What would cause it to move. What does it do? |

It's an adjustable pre-load for the clutch, used to set tape tension. In normal use it doesn't move.

Thank you for the explanation!
Does it look to be set in the right place for normal use? |

Well. it's set about in the middle of the range, so that was probably OK when it left the factory. To see whether it is still right. it would be best to consult the service manual. Try Hi Fi Engine.

I have two of these and they are both set the same and that is one notch anticlockwise from the one shown in the picture.

Thanks I'll go with one notch anticlockwise. It was 1/2 way between two settings when I took it out
