Forum slow loading?
Hi Paul, has anyone else noticed that the forum has sometimes been slow to load initially and sometimes slow between pages on any one particular session?
This has been happening since the start of the week. Edf |

Re: Forum slow loading?
Not here, but I have, in the last week, upgraded to fibre to the cabinet (a whopping 40 MB/s).

Re: Forum slow loading?
Yes, I've noticed this as well. Some posts I've clicked on show 'waiting' messages even after I've come back from making a cup of tea !

Re: Forum slow loading?
I've never noticed any problems when I've been here.
Next time you notice it please post the exact time (as shown at the bottom of the page) the problem started and ended. Also please check if www.service-data.com and www.vintage-radio.com are also affected or not. Could others who are here during the periods of reported problems please say whether or not they were also affected. Also please state which internet provider and web browser you are using. That will give some definitive information which I can pass onto the hosting company, which is what they will need to investigate. |

Re: Forum slow loading?
I use Chrome and Win8.1. Since an update about 10 days ago Chrome has been slow in many respects. Slight delay loading, delay on the back button whether on the mouse or the arrow at the top but 1 in 10 times it's instant. Don't think it's the forum as it's on many sites but a wider issue.

Re: Forum slow loading?
I'm with BT broadband and running Mint plus Firefox browser.
I'm only experiencing problems on UKVRR - the main site & service data sites linked to above work fine with an instant response (I just tried them). All other forums I'm on work OK as well. At 4:07pm I tried to read a post - my browser responded with a message "Transferring data from www.vintage-radio.net..." By 4:10 I had got fed up waiting so stopped it then refreshed and this worked. Also at 4:13pm similar problem, this time with the message "Waiting for www.vintage-radio.net..." Andy

Re: Forum slow loading?
I've found the whole net a bit sluggish today so maybe there are some infrastructure problems somewhere. It hasn't been bad enough to make me investigate further.

Re: Forum slow loading?
From the IP addresses I think all who are reporting problems are on BT Internet or Plusnet (which is owned by BT), or TalkTalk. That could just be coincidence as they are popular ISPs and a small sample though.
I haven't noticed any slowness anywhere today (using Zen Internet fibre connection). This forum does include some Javascript from http://yui.yahooapis.com and http://google-analytics.com so if one of those is slow for you it could affect page loading. The other two websites I asked you to check are on the same server as the forum. The service data site also uses a MySQL database whereas the vintage radio site is just static pages. If both of those load OK it does tend to suggest it's not a server issue, though it's difficult to say what else could affect just the forum. |

Re: Forum slow loading?
I had the same problem and I was able to fix it by doing a factory reset on the router.
It is some kind of line noise affecting the settings in the router. Perhaps it is caused by lightning noise. |

Re: Forum slow loading?
Not had any problems here.
Mind you I use OpenDNS following problems connecting to some other websites when using my ISP's default DNS server and would advise everyone else to do the same. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/browse...dns-server.htm |

Re: Forum slow loading?
I had problems yesterday with slow loading, I don't recall the time. However I emptied the cache in the browser and that cleared the problem. All ok since.
Using an iPad on Sky ADSL about 8Mb/s. Frank |

Re: Forum slow loading?
Occasional slow downs here via Virgin Media/Firefox but nothing significant. A page refresh usually sorts it out if the page doesn't seem to be doing anything ('Waiting...' message in status bar).

Re: Forum slow loading?
Sometimes slow here, when 'waiting' messages are displayed 9 i.e. 'waiting for, connected to, read, etc., several times over' I'm using Firefox and Talk Talk Broadband. This morning all is OK, though!

Re: Forum slow loading?
Well, the forum is super fast this morning with no delays at all.
So something is different but I don't know what... Andy
