Unable to upload pictures
I am trying to post some radios for sale and keep getting errors when trying to upload the pictures. I get service unavailable due to maintenance or capacity problems.
is there a problem with the forum server? Peter |

Re: Unable to upload pictures
You will occasionally see this message if the server is unusually busy. It should be OK if you wait a couple of minutes and try again. Often the server is only overcapacity for a second or two.

Re: Unable to upload pictures
I have just tried again. It sits there for ages saying uploading then gives the following message:
"Service Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later. Additionally, a 503 Service Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request." Peter |

Just to ensure that it's not just moderators for whom it works:

Re: Unable to upload pictures
Thats really odd, I just tried using Chrome instead of Firefox and got the same error.
Just in case its something peculiar about the pictures I will try and attach a file to this message. Peter Edit, well that worked, I will try resizing the pictures I am trying to upload. Thanks for the help. Peter |

Re: Unable to upload pictures
That thought had just occurred to me too. It is worth checking the size of the images you're trying to upload, as it may be that the resizing procedure simply gives up if it's too big.

Re: Unable to upload pictures
OK, its file size. I used to always resize before uploading but have got lazy recently as the system was so successful at re-sizing.
I have just resized the pictures and uploaded them in my offered post. Thanks again for the help. Peter |

Re: Unable to upload pictures
There may be a problem if the images are really huge - something may time out while they're uploading.

Re: Unable to upload pictures
If it is a vary big file it could time out if your connection isn't that fast or the server is busy.
The forum software does a reasonably good job of resizing most of the time, but with mobile phones having ever higher resolution cameras and producing ever bigger images we will probably have more issues like this. I normally resize to within the limits first, which also allows me to crop closer to the item of interest, rotate if necessary and do any level tweaks first. Remember there is a higher file size limit for ZIP files so if you need to add photos over the forum size limit for clarity or detail then put them in a ZIP file and upload that instead. No processing needed by the forum software for those. |

Re: Unable to upload pictures
The original pictures were all just under 3 Meg, I tried to upload 4 of them.
Lesson learnt, I will resize in future. Peter |

Re: Unable to upload pictures
The easiest solution is to change your camera resolution if you know you're taking pictures to upload to the net.

Re: Unable to upload pictures
I use Image Resizer but I understand that this is now available from the Microsoft app store as a "PowerToy"

Re: Unable to upload pictures
Hard limits set in the configuration here for image uploads are:
Maximum size = 5000 x 5000 pixels. Anything over won't be resized or accepted. Maximum upload size = 64MB. If uploading several images simultaneously that is the total not per image. If exceeded you will get a server error message. |
