Default Body Tip Spot Resistors?

Hi,

Does anybody know what type of paint was used, to indicate the markings and the values of these type of resistors? Was it a special paint of some sort.
Also does anyone have any idea what year the body tip spot resistor was first intreduced, were they pre-war?
Thanks,

Paul.

Not sure when they were first introduced, possibly in the 1920's, apparently the colour code was introduced in the early 1920's by the RMA (Radio Manufacturers Association)

Lawrence.
