Interesting point Stephen , I had not considered the aurora power supply to be having an effect like this.

I've always liked the look of this family of sets, at least from the front; they are rather pretty. I can imagine your feelings when you unwrapped the package and found the sad mess inside.
According to my googling, 39 guineas in 1949 is equivalent to £1300 today, so it puts it all in perspective.
