Re: Brenell Mk5 Recapping Advice
Any update on this deck? I have my Brenell Mk 5 gold deck on the bench this week to solder a few replacement parts and to finally get around to retensioning the brakes and setting/aligning the tape heads.
Have you attempted to use dummy plugs in the 1/4" sockets when testing noise figures? This may help eliminate potentional RF interference and drop the noise level. I will be working on mine the rest of the week, so if you wish to discuss further, I can comment and post pictures if need be. P.S. It is worthwhile to look at the circuit description for the Mullard 3W tape amp as it's nearly identical to the Brenell Mk 5 gold. There is quite a bit of useful information there. Also take a look at the Sterns Type C and other similar circuits. |
