What aerial - 70's Philips Hi-Fi?
Hi
Please can you advise what, if any, aerial/antenna I need for the sockets shown in the picture. The radio does receive some channels OK on AM and FM - is an aerial needed and if so how does it connect to the sockets shown? Thank you, Rob. |

Re: What aeriel - 70s Phillips hifi
Try again to upload your pictures.
You don't normally need an external aerial for AM, as there will be an internal ferrite rod aerial. However, you should be aware that this is directional, so you may need to reposition the unit or fit an external aerial if you're unlucky. You will normally need some sort of aerial for FM. If you're in a strong signal area this can simply be a 75cm length of wire connected to one of the FM sockets, or Poundland sell twin telescopic aerials. Of course, you can use much more sophisticated aerials than this, but I'm assuming you don't want to go there. |

Re: What aerial - 70's Philips Hi-Fi?
A simple FM "T" aerial can be made from a length of (ideally lightweight) mains flex.
Pull each of the wires so they are 5 feet apart and pin that length to a cane/dowel. From the mid-point take the (still joined together) cable to the back of the Philips and push the two bared wire ends into each of the FM sockets. Orientate the aerial for the best results.
