Default Rogers Majestic Television.

I always believed that the RM in RM Electric Ltd was derived from the 1920s firm Rees Mace Ltd. Evidently not, it's Rogers Majestic. According to Grace's Guide an RM TV set made in 1939.

The different typeface used for each name, and the hyphenation, suggest to me that this was some sort of merger of two existing companies.

Rather odd that the advert mentions that the set displays a black and white picture. I wonder how many were sold.

Possibly implying black and white as opposed to black and green rather than full colour.

R M Electric Ltd was probably connected with, or licenced by, the Canadian firm Rogers Majestic Corporation Limited (formed by the merger of Rogers Vacuum Tube Company with Majestic Corporation of Chicago, in 1928).

Rees Mace Marine was taken over by Pye, around 1950. The company name was changed to Pye Marine Ltd, in 1954.

I'm sure you're right. An internet search indicates that the name was still in use on TV sets until at least 1959. I'm fascinated by the 1957 set with its very modern-looking CRT cabinet and its chassis apparently suspended in a gondola beneath!

Yes, presumably the same 12-inch tube as in the Baird T18... incidentally this was the model shown at the close of 405 in January 1985. That set had passed through my hands but I've long forgotten what sort of Cathovisor it had.

Baird Television Ltd supplied parts to home constructors and it's possible to small manufactures as well. BTL would take the point of view that if the firms didn't buy the parts from us they'd most likely find another supplier.

It is also suggested that it may not have been a merger between Rogers and Majestic (Grigsby-Grunow) but some kind of license situation (possibly for manufacturing and distributing Majestic sets for the Canadian market?).

Around 1946 Rogers-Majestic was taken over by Philips.
