Hi. My HMV 2345 record player becomes very noisy when turned up, like loud feedback, can anyone identify the fault and how to fix it please?

You may have the two transit screws on the deck screwed all the way out.

They should be screwed all the way in so that the record deck 'floats' on its sprung suspension.

Ah, so it's really a Stereogram and not just a record player. Is the hum on the 3 radio wavebands as well as when switched over to gram?

Well there may be a bit more to this than you think. What skills do you have in vintage electronics - fault finding, voltage measuring, soldering?

No skills with vintage electronics at all! just what I can pick up and learn, I can solder and use a voltmeter, but I was hoping I would have to remove any components to test! What's your thoughts please?

Given your lack of skills the best thing to do would be to replace the smoothing capacitor. In transistorised radiograms this is generally a single unit of around 2000uF.

Thanks, Any guidance on how to locate this on the radio and where to purchase a new one would be very much appreciated?

Service data available here:-

https://www.service-data.com/section.php/3826/1/2345

The smoothing capacitor will likely be the largest component on the circuit board and will have the value in uF (microfards) written on it along with the working voltage.

List of component suppliers here:-
