Oriole kept going until at least the end of 1964. When CBS decided to set up their own operation in the UK, rather than continue to be issued by Philips, they used the Oriole pressing plant and eventually acquired it, at which point Oriole faded away. Oriole were also responsible for the budget Realm label which issued quite a lot of good jazz LPs.
London was a Decca label (the name they used for Decca in the USA post WWII) and they also issued Capitol and Brunswick in the early 1950s so I would place the signage as the early to mid-1950s.

The records I had with the Oriole label would have been from the 1960's.

As for the shop I would also say the 1950's as a first guess.

Lawrence.
Oriole was bought out about 1962 and became CBS UK. Early Tamla Motown i.e. Please Mr Postman was on Oriole or Fontana but certainly Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, after which Tamla came out on Stateside which started up about 1963 as EMI took over the license.

According to Wikipedia Oriole was taken over by US Columbia on 21st September 1964 and Oriole Records was renamed CBS Records in 1965. The last advert I can find for Oriole in The Gramophone is in the December 1964 issue.

My Oriole 78rpm is CB1052 Georgia on My Mind / You're Just The Kind by Frankie Laine.
I think Frankie Laine was released on Philips from about 1952

Good plan, Ed. A local photographer took iconic photos from the early sixties onwards so I hope to find where his Estate have put them.

Lawrence - post #15 - wow! You were right in the middle of the Northern Soul scene and helping in no small way to give it life. What a story and I bet you have amazing memories.

It became a smaller scene in some niche clubs near here in the 90’s revival, but I would have loved to be there back in the day.
