V9 in place of V15. V15 is above the B729 [the taller one]

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 302 Television
Do you get any sound at all from the speaker. Slight hum? Buzz? or is it completely silent as if the receiver was switched off?

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 302 Television
OK. Can you now get any disturbance of the line on the screen when you rotate the tuner through it's channels? You should also get clicks from the speaker.
Are you sure the tuner valves are in the correct sockets? You can slip the cans off and post a pic if possible. Is the brightness on full? |

Does the height control have any effect on the height of the line?

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 302 Television
That is the IF board Daz. The tuner valves are mounted on the tuner itself. Leave them alone as the disturbance proves they are probably working.
Ok, just maybe a little progress. We must get the frame timebase to work correctly. Is the brightness on full and does the height control or the frame form control just above it have any effect on the size of the line? |

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 302 Television
Daz, What effect does it have? Does it increase the height, if so how much? Is the brightness control on full?

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 302 Television
The good thing is that we have at least got some EHT and a limited frame scan. The problem appears to be that it is very dim. A frame collapse should give a bright if not blinding line of light on the tube. Your very dim results show that the tube is almost certainly very low emission and any picture displayed would be very dim indeed requiring the room lights out to see anything at all.
The second problem is that you are going to have to spend a bit of money replacing all the black Hunts capacitors on the timebase panel at least to get even that far.The IF panel will also require a complete overhaul. You will also need a 405 line signal source to be able to use the TV for any purpose. It's time to decide how further you want to go with it and quite frankly I don't think it's going to be a viable proposition with the weak tube in mind. At least we have reached this point without you having to spend what could be a large sum of money on components and equipment just to discover it's all in vain. Have a think about it. Regards, John. |

Re: Fixing a GEC BT 302 Television
Daz, I have asked you several times if the brightness is on full but no answer. It's all a matter of distance. Matlock is a long way from West Sussex.
You need 'hands on' experience to get this working. We have all tried to help but it is so difficult at a distance. Maybe someone nearer to you is willing to take on the challenge. TV servicing could be described as an art. I have been repairing TV receivers [and just about everything else] since I was 11 years old, that was 1960! You never learn it all and I still come up with mind benders today. Regards, John. |
