Re: 1960s/70s Garden lighting
I rescued this late 1970's, possibly 1980's, large 135w low sodium street light from outside our house when they were being changed out to LED a few months ago. It did not take long to lash it up at the bottom of the garden carefully locating it so it does not upset too many neighbours. I wired it into our shed via a remote controlled switch. It works a treat and I love it but my family don't share the same enthusiasm for it.
It is rather bright with the Philips specification form claiming a staggering 22,600 lumens output which is perhaps a bit too much for our small garden.

Re: 1960s/70s Garden lighting
Nothing subtle about this light. Totally swamps out the garden Christmas lights LOL.

Re: 1960s/70s Garden lighting
Now, how about a very large fire bell for the front door?

On that theme, I'm a bit fed up with being the only one prepared to answer our landline. But I have a 240v Klaxon, and I'm sure I can find a relay somewhere

Re: 1960s/70s Garden lighting
Our house had an intriguing 'garden' lighting when we bought it back in 1978. It has 128 steps down from the road and someone had installed a sealed beam 12v car headlight and on off mains switch on a box pointing down the steps, a 240-12 v transformer INSIDE the house and some PVC mains cable running the 12v from the transformer to the outside through a hole in the wooden window frame up to the lamp/switch up the steps. You left the transformer plugged in and switched the secondary side on before walking down the steps. Now all replaced with proper electrician installed mains lighting.

Re: 1960s/70s Garden lighting
Just a sobering post. An ex-colleague of mine who was a very very experienced electronics and lighting engineer by profession, died by electrocution last week whilst putting up some exterior party lights in his own garden. Be warned, be careful.

Re: 1960s/70s Garden lighting
That's a nasty one, Red, my condolences. The closest i came to this was a result of someone having built up a (household) lighting circuit with switched neutrals instead of switched lives.
