Default Wanted: Eccentricity Gauge for Sony Betamax.

Hi all.

Does anyone have an eccentricity gauge and bracket for sale/loan/hire please?

I've been given a Sony SL-C7 Beta vcr and the head is worn. I'm not even going to attempt to change it unless I can find a gauge.

I've tried to capture the streaking on the pictures but my tablet camera doesn't seem to catch them.

Many thanks

Rich.

Hi there
I can certainly lend you my own if you wish, hope you are able to obtain a head disc, the upper drum is also a bit of a problem.
Greg.

Post #6 from Glynn, he made his own gauge, Greg’s gauge would be better but if you are stuck it’s a good idea from Glynn.

Search for 'dial gauge' on engineering supplier web sites, such as 'Cromwell Tools' or 'RDG Tools', there are plenty of options out there. Some have a lever whilst others are a ball that pushes into an outer sleeve. They are often used on lathes for the same purpose as in head alignment. You should be able to get one for less than 30 brand new.

Thank you for the replies! Very much appreciated.

Greg's proper gauge would be the best option for me at this moment, but I'll look into those other two options mentioned.

Many thanks

Rich.

If you know anyone that does engineering they may have a dial gauge which when mounted has a moving plunger which operates the dial to see when the head moves off centre position

Thanks for the replies.

Greg has very kindly agreed to let me borrow his gauge which I'm very grateful for.
I can then replace the heads in the C7, plus another C7 in storage, and two Toshiba vcrs (V8600 and V5470 Bush clone).

I'll certainly look into obtaining a dial gauge of my own for any future head changes.

Many thanks again

Rich.
