Looks like a small Philips set I used to have in the early 70’s. Not a conclusive identification though I’m afraid.

Just seen the recently released film 'Living', which was set in 1955. In the living room on a shelf was a Bush DAC90A, appropriate for the era, but for a change, it was a cream one, which actually looked rather too cheerful. A brown one would have been more suited to the sombre underlying theme of the film! (It wasn't in use).

Talking of cream DAC90s, I notice that Father Brown seems to no longer have his in the latest series.

I hesitate to write this as it means confessing to watching Eastenders but on Thursday's episode Patrick placed a winning bet on a horse and listened to the race on a Dansette Conquest record player which he reached over to and switched off at the end of the action - at least he grasped the correct knob (which just happened to be the one closest to him)!

I saw that and commented to 'err indoors. She said no one else will notice, pour the wine and forget about it.

Apparantly it was restored by Dansette Revolver in Wolverhampton about ten years ago.

The Yorkshire Auction House, series 3 episode 8, new on Discovery+ now and I assume on Really this evening and repeated through the week. Collection of amateur radio equipment, a jukebox, windup gramophone, and other unrelated items sold in the first half of the episode.
For viewing information only, let’s not waylay this thread with specifics about pricing and accuracy etc. Sorry for the blue tinge, offscreen photos. Last edited by Paul Stenning; 24th Apr 2023 at 9:44 pm. |

Probably already been posted here but I've not got the time to look.
An Ekco A65, with a young Betty Driver, in the film "Penny Paradise" from 1938. Absolutely gorgeous! (the radio, that is). Anyone for hotpot?

Re: Vintage Radios, TVs etc in films and on TV (NOT ANACHRONISMS)
My wife, daughter & I were watching “ Changing Ends”( a “ comedy drama” on the early life of entertainer/celebrity Alan Carr) when there was a scene involving a character watching a CRT television. My daughter ( who is 25), suddenly yelped and enquired” what’s that high pitched noise!”. I can only conclude she was referring to the LOPT whistle of the CRT tv in the scene.
I couldn’t hear a thing, (although I used to be able to. ) I’m also pleasantly surprised that the programme makers sound recording system is good enough to pick up such a high frequency, the system is capable of transmitting it, and our telly capable of reproducing it.

...unless it was a “add a random, high pitched squeal to make it seem like the olden days” thing, a bit like the tinny sound huge old radios are made out to produce.

Re: Vintage Radios, TVs etc in films and on TV (NOT ANACHRONISMS)
Hi Nick. Would the average programme maker think of that? If so, it really is attention to detail! It presumably means the set concerned was actually displaying a “ real” picture.

Spotted a Decola in the apartment being used by a "good time girl" in Danger UXB last week.

Re: Vintage Radios, TVs etc in films and on TV (NOT ANACHRONISMS)
In the first episode of Randall and Hopkirk (deceased), there's a monochrome TV in the hotel room which looks to be a 405 line only set as it appears to have only a single large knob for channel selection. I don't really recognise the set but it has a GEC/Sobell look to it. Beneath the TV there's some kind of radio or audio system. Again, I don't recognise this item. Please see attached pic.
Any ideas on their identity? Regards, Symon |

Pye group 67 or 368 chassis dual standard mono TV. Ferranti (Pye brand) AM/FM transistor mains table radio.
This series was made by ITC - an ATV subsidiary. ATV had some connections with Pye. |

Re: Vintage Radios, TVs etc in films and on TV (NOT ANACHRONISMS)
Thanks dazzlevision for the info, another mystery solved.
I couldn't see from the dark pic that it was actually dual standard. There didn't appear to be another rotary knob for the UHF tuner or indeed a push button mechanical UHF tuner so assumed it was 405 line only. Regards, Symon |

Re: Vintage Radios, TVs etc in films and on TV (NOT ANACHRONISMS)
In the late 1960's my uncle had a dual-standard TV with a single six-position rotary tuner providing four VHF and two UHF channels. I don't recall the make. Clearly produced when the only UHF channel was BBC2.
