Default Replacement stylus for a Dynatron Garrard mazurka sp25 Mrk 111?

Hi all, long time since I've been on here.

Can anyone advise on a replacement stylus for a Dynatron Garrard mazurka sp25 Mrk 111?

I have just received a Technics ATN 95 e and it doesn't fit. I think I should have ordered the AT95e, I thought they were the same?

The cartridge itself determines the stylus required. Information about the make and model of the player may be misleading since there's no guarantee that the cartridge will be original. Some Mazurkas were fitted with Goldring G800 carts which certainly wouldn't like an ATN95e stylus!

The cartridge make and model (or a decent photo of it) would probably get you a definitive answer here.

FWIW the ATN95e is the stylus part number for an Audio Technica AT95e cartridge. It's not a Technics part at all.

Hi again, glad it's still going - presumably the same machine we talked about here in 2006?

As Chris said, post a really good picture of the cartridge (which the stylus fits into) is what we need, in bright light and with your camera set to macro (the flower icon). The cartridge and its mounting slide can be easily removed from the end of the arm by sliding them forwards, by the way.

Cheers Herald,

I think the problem is I have the original cartridge for this Garrard Mazurka, and I have been buying replacement styluses for it! I think this is why the ATN95e or the AT95 e styluses won't fit as it's trying to fit into a different cartridge?

Does that make sense?

I can't tell you what stylus I currently have as it has no name or number!

I can't remember the name of the original cartridge/ stylus as I bought this deck second hand in the early eighties!

Hi Nick, thanks for coming in, you're right, me again back from 2006!

I've attached some photos guys, let me know if they are OK, or I can take some more!
cheers Niall

At a quick glance, that looks like an ADC cartridge, see this stylus: http://www.thestyluslady.co.uk/stylu...-rk8-462-p.asp

But please wait for confirmation by others before rushing off to order one!

cheers Nick, again, that does certainly look like the one I have!

This one is actually running ok (ADC), compared to the old hi-fidelity record player we had back in the early 70s, with a real cheapo stylus, the flip over ones, the Garrard, with a heavier arm and better stylus, means my old records which were skipping then, are predominantly all ok now!

Anyone else?

I'm just wondering if the ATN 95 e cartridge would fit my Garrard mazurka?

The AT95e cartridge should be fine- it has the same mounting hole spacing as the original cartridge. It may need different length screws or connecting tags though.

Hang on, Niall, we're getting confused here!!

Firstly, it's a Dynatron Mazurka with a Garrard SP25/III deck, not a "Dynatron Garrard Mazurka", and in post one, you refer to the stuff you bought as "Technics" when it's Audio-Technica. But don't worry about that, we all make mistakes!

In post four, you picture an ADC cartridge then in post 7 you ask whether an ATN95E cartridge would fit the Garrard, but as Chris said in post 2, ATN95E is a stylus part number.

Do you actually have an AT95E cartridge: http://www.audiotechnicashop.com/ind...0#.Us6vVPtG3Bo

or just an ATN95E stylus: http://www.audiotechnicashop.com/ind...#.Us6vP_tG3Bo?

Nick.

Are you happy with the performance of the fitted cartridge and only want a new stylus to replace the worn one?
If you can reliably identify the type that's your best option.
Otherwise as advised by Nick, a replacement cartridge is the way. I have no knowledge of the performance level of your electronics, But I would think the AT95E would be at the top end of the performance envelope on the SP25. I use one on a rega arm on a Michell turntable currently as a stopgap while I sort out the fancy ortofon MC and it really does punch above its weight. You might be just as happy with a more modest cartridge and save a few quid.
I have found that a decent dealer (there are still some!) will sell a suitable replacement and it won't necessarily cost you any more than mail order or auction sites. and if you get lucky might even fit it to the headshell for you if you're a bit unsure.
I see your location is stated as Glasgow, you should find a decent shop there.
Forgive me if teaching granny to suck eggs.

The Numark in #10 is robust as the SP25/3 is basic.
For a more expensive item this Audio Technica works well and a 78 rpm stylus si available

Yes Nick your right, but I have purchased the Audio Technica ATN95e stylus, not the cartridge.

I bought it from http://www.superfi.co.uk/. They said I can return it. So I think I'll look into Restoration's suggestion, or maybe see if I can find something similar to the ADC stylus! Or maybe for another £10 buy the AT95e cartridge?

thx for all the help and suggestions!

@ Restoration, will this NUMARK fit the existing cartridge I have?

And, this other suggestion is for a cartridge plus stylus replacement?

G050UC - AUDIO TECHNICA AT91/AT3600/AS76

thanks for the suggestions and information!

Niall!

Not Restoration but... NO! The Numark is a complete new cartridge with stylus.

But you are right that the Audio Technica AT-91 cartridge (complete with stylus) would be an excellent choice, if you wanted to dispense with your ADC cartridge. £17.10 here including VAT and carriage (it's a nicer cartridge than the Numark, which though good value, is a bargain basement offering): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audio-Tech...item2a3643f8f8

What about the ADC stylus? I must have paid around £12 for this over twenty years ago?

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

ADC made some fab low cost cartridges as well as some of the best 'magnetic type' cartridges of the 60's to 80's! Original QLM styli are readily available still and you want one which is a solid 2g tracker. The BSR K8 was also made by ADC and came with the SP25 competing BSR MP60/P128 decks so should also work well in the high mass Garrard tonearm.

The AT95e (ATN 95e is the replacement stylus) and conical-tip AT91 (and 'tweaked' Rega Carbon model which is based on the AT91) are fine replacements, but certainly no better than a ADC QLM 34 or 36 (I can't remember which would be the 1.5g - 3g model here).

By the way, the gold ADC body indicates the origin cartridge being a 1.5g tracking VLM model, which is possibly a touch too delicate for this SP25 model. I don't think the innards were much if any different to the more basic silver coloured models (apparently, ADC tinkered endlessly with the coil resistance/inductance in a given model's lifetime) so don't worry here.

Dave, could you point Niall in the direction of a suitable stylus for his ADC, as an alternative to a new cartridge?

I don't want to upset the mods by inappropriate links, but eBay and Musonic would be a good start..

Here's one - http://www.musonic.co.uk/qlm32-mkiii...s-p-18219.html

K8e stylus here - http://www.stereoneedles.com/ADC.html

Copy and original stylus here - http://www.turntableneedles.com/RSQ3...DET_p_859.html

Hope this helps?
