Thanks for the tips and pointers Mark.
I've got a couple of jobs to sort and clear from the bench first then I might just take some brave pills and have a go

Marc.

I have now completed the set, I spent a few hours on the cabinet and a carried out few finishing touches.
It has been a long journey with this set, and I would like to say thanks to all who have helped me to see it through.
I think it has been worth it, I am certainly happy with how good it looks now.
Just look at the difference from when I got it!

That looks really good Mark. You're a more patient man than I...

Well done, keep up the good work!

Regards,
Paul

It has taken longer to restore than any TV I have tackled so far, but I was determined to see it through.
I do like the look of the set, the cabinet is of high quality construction and finish.

After a lot of elbow grease, the cabinet now has a deep shine to it. It certainly looks older than 1950 in appearance.

I ran it up again last night. It needed a tweak on the line hold at first, then ran all evening without issue.
I think the combination of modern capacitors and the fact the chassis runs cool in this cabinet (there is a large mesh grille in the base of the cabinet) will certainly help. I would imagine that this chassis would suffer from heat related instability much more in the tiny table models, where ventilation was very poor.

Thanks Steve, My next project will be it's HMV brother, but to keep me sane I am doing one of my Pye LV20's at the same time

At least if I come across any problems with it, I will find it easier just having completed one!
