I'm gluing back the top shield (comes loose on all of them). So will put it together tomorrow and take side picture. Defective cap causing very low volume level was found and replaced. Last edited by toshik1; 1st Sep 2014 at 2:54 am. |

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
Your Wollensak is certainly not familiar to us, as JH says, but it looks to be in fine condition.
I thought Wollensak were famous for their own transports, so presumably they bought-in these Philips machines as a stop-gap measure until they could make their own machines. You must have a very impressive collection now. |

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
I finally got my hands over my original EL3302 from the childhood - it's quite a sad scene... Good for parts...

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
The PCB burned a hole(!) is the case in the area of the ouput transistors and they were replaced long time ago. The metal shield around the edges is all bent, battery compartment pastic is all out of shape - probably the batteries were left in it and it was plugged in for a while. The head worned out and was replaced with something not OEM at all. The speaker is not OEM. Motor and regulator are from something else. Etc etc etc...
I see PCB being good for pulling remaining original transistors out, indicator is still good (I don't know why but it's the most common faulty element with stuck non-moving hand.) Both reels are good with freely-moving spring loaded parts. Last edited by toshik1; 18th Sep 2014 at 10:39 am. |

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
gosh... it's amazing how there's enough power for such a meltdown even in a portable cassette recorder!
at this point i guess it's a good parts donor |

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
Got another Wollensak, this time 4200 without "G" on the end - it's 1-st Generation EL3302. And FINALLY it has schematics sheet glued onto the back of the bottom cover!

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
the 2203 was the first one with ALC recording i think, the 2204 was the same recorder with a built in mains power supply and a larger speaker

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
Ok let's add some life to the thread. Got 15 pcs of Philps/Norelco/Wollensak both G1 and G2
Got an early December 1966 Norelco Carry Corder 150, but the device itself is Philips EL3302/54 and Philips shield is removed from the grille... The earliest Norelco-branded model EL3302/94 I have is from June of 1967, so I guess the early ones had Philips logo shield removed on purpose. |

Nop I prefer G1 ones. Not too many late ones at all.

I also prefer Germanium based EL3302s or early silicon ones.

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
Here is another earliest known EL3302 by Philips from September 1966, however has Norelco logo on the grille. Typical for very early EL3302s features.

Re: Philips/Norelco EL3302
But when the machine is hanging by the shoulder strap the logo/model badge will be displaying the make & model type to onlookers (an advertising ploy)
