Heard a trailer for it this morning on the World Service, all times are in GMT, first playing 9:06 BST Friday. 15:06 and 22:06 BST too.

Here is a link to the online RadioTimes, looks like it was written by a script jockey.

9:06 BST is NOT GMT...

I think the problem is that all the other listings on that page are for normal UK programs and it doesn't seem to recognise that the World Service publish their times in GMT.

"9:06 BST is NOT GMT..."
I agree, that is why I used both, perhaps I should have clarified the times mentioned on the WS where GMT and when to listen was in BST. The RT website 'converts' (adds 1 hour) to the (GMT) WS times. A while ago the WS used to promote that they told the time of transmission was 'in you local time' (at least on the European service) this soon went, not supprisingly considering the range of radio.

If I am at home during a transmission I will listen on the A22.

For those members resident in Australia the Gerry Wells documentary may be heard at the following times: 10.00am EST- 3.00pm EST- and 10pm- EST from Aurora C1 satellite R13 This transponder relays BBC World Service, FTA, and perhaps on various ABC relays.
I have just heard a promo for Gerry Wells on BBC WS. via A/C1.(11.30pm EST. 19.08.10) Note EST = GMT +10hrs.

According to the "Culture" section of last week's Sunday Times it is to be broadcast on the World Service, 648kHz, from 9.06 to 9.30, then again at 12.06, 3.06 and 8.06.

I heard it on my DAB radio on the mototcycle on the way to a meeting. I'll have another listen on 648kHz 3:06 GMT this afternoon too. It is a well done programme, a bit 'arty' for my taste though.

Just listened to this excellent programme as recorded on a hard-drive video recorder from a digital terrestrial television transmission. Gerry would definitely not have approved!
(incidentallythe first I heard about the programme was on the RSGB Amateur Radio News on 80 metres!)

The World Sevice seems an odd choice for the first airing. However, it's nice to know that the rest of the world is kept informed that the age of the true British "eccentric" is not yet dead.

I really must go and see him sometime. Great programme and I see a lot of myself in him.

Cheers,

I listened via BBC iplayer earlier as the Empire Service times weren't convenient. It's supposedly being broadcast again this evening though.

Listened to it on Freeview
Thought it made an affectionate sound portrait of Gerry. Also embarrased to hear myself recorded at one of the Sunday workshops - I'm the one talkng about "motorboating". That must have been at least 2 years ago.

So when would the programme actually have been put together? Listening to mentions of periods in history, dates etc and marrying these to Gerry's age I got the impression it was all recorded recently.

It was stated as being on at 12:05 on the World Service so I and a visiting forum member had a VHF81 on playing from about 11:50 to 2 o clock and there wasn't even a mention of it

Guess I'll have to listen to it on iplayer

Excellent. Just listened to it. it was like stepping back 50 odd years. I must make a point of going to the next museum open day.

If anyone is still stuck trying to find and record it, it is available as an MP3 file (11MB) by going to the BBC World Service page and finding the podcasts and looking for 'Documentaries'. Gerry probably wouldn't approve of this medium but it does provide a record of what seemed to me to be a sympathetic portrait.
