Default Marconi 42AC

I found this radio whilst clearing my late uncle's house. He used to collect valve radios and was wondering if it is worth restoring, it's all there apart from rear panel.

This is an early collectable radio (1931) in an art deco cabinet. A lot of radios from this period never had a back cover fitted and your set is probably one of those. Someone who knows the model well will put me right if necessary.

It is certainly worth restoring but it is not a project suitable for a novice.

It is well worth restoring. I have restored the radiogram version and the TRF radio works very well. It has a metal box containing capacitors and filled with black pitch which is very messy to open up and empty so it is not the most straightforward as a first restoration.

It is certainly a historic and interesting set,

Definitely a set worth restoring. Looking at the set on the radio museum there are small holes to accept screws on the back of the set, this suggests that the set would have had a back panel. TRF sets do work rather well once restored.

Thanks,
Peter

Thank you for your replies , I wouldn’t restore it myself I would have to find someone with the knowledge and skills , it was one of many radio’s my uncle had collected , but I just liked the look of this one

I guess the chance of restoring it to full is unlikely , perhaps I best just either get it repaired to work or sell it as it is, as I have many more radio’s to clear from my late uncles house and only live in a small flat, so can only do 4 or 5 at a time, it’s has been very nice to all the replies and advice on this site as well as interesting wish I knew more about radio’s, I have a job for the rest of my life lol
