Aerial VHF & UHF combiner/distributor/amplifier wanted
I just wondered if anyone has one of the old aerial amplifiers/distributors which used to have seperate inputs for VHF and UHF and then carried both UHF and VHF along the same output cable/s please?
I used to have one of these myself some years back, I think they were reasonably common before 405 went off the air and I also believe they were often used in flats and the like to allow 405 and 625 signals to be supplied by the two individual aerials and then fed to each room/flat by one cable. These days you only seem to be able to get unigts that deal with FM and UHF, bot nothing that covers Band I. If anyone has anything suitable or even knows whee I can find one I would be very grateful, if so please send me a PM. Many thanks, Peter. |

Hi,
In case no-one can help with a second hand item, you might be able to get an "export" version of a current production amplifier, as I think some parts of Europe still use VHF and UHF (TV bands) for 625 transnmissions. Maybe worth emailing manufacturers or perhaps look at the Donberg Electronics website (based in Irish Republic). Regards, Dazzlevision |

Re: Aerial VHF & UHF combiner/distributor/amplifier wanted
Thanks for the suggestion. I just had a look on eBay and there's nothing there that goes down as low as 41.5 mc/s, most start with Band II. If you could suggest anywhere that I can obtain one which will cover Band I Channel I I'd be very grateful. I guess a European version would be better than an American one as the mains input would be correct.
Thanks again. Peter. |

Hi,
Try emailing the manufacturers: Antiference, Maxview, Labgear, Triax/Wolsey, Televes, etc. There was a specialist DX-TV supplier in Poole - Aerial techniques - I don't know if they are still going....? Regards, Dazzlevision |

There are a number of adverts for companies selling aerial installation equipment in Technology@Home - http://www.technology-at-home.co.uk - so it may be worth picking up a copy of that (try W H Smith) and phoning around.

Re: Aerial VHF & UHF combiner/distributor/amplifier wanted
I have one of these:
http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSea...=AP00589&N=411 It's a 32dB VHF amplifier, variable gain, with a VHF/UHF diplexer at the output. The diplexer also serves to reject any harmonics on the VHF carrier. CPC don't always hold it in stock, as demand for this version is not high, but they can get it quickly if you order it. It only has a single output but this can easily be distributed using passive splitters. |

Re: Aerial VHF & UHF combiner/distributor/amplifier wanted
I know that most aerial distribution amps in the UK are only specified down to 88MHz but I wonder how they actually perform down to 40MHz. If they are only a few dB down and there is minimal gain difference across a channel then there is no problem. Unless there is an explicit high pass filter in the amp if it's flat(ish) down to 88MHz it shouldn't be far down at 40MHz.
I can readily measure amps with my network analyser but I don't have any modern units around to try. If anyone is near me (London N12) and would like to bring an amp to be measured I'd be happy to do it. It's only a 5 minute job even if I have to set up the analyser from scratch. The network analyser is not portable |

Re: Aerial VHF & UHF combiner/distributor/amplifier wanted
There's a wide range available here in NZ, we still use band I & III as well as UHF; the four major national FTA broadcasters are mainly VHF with UHF used for Prime, Maori TV and Sky UHF (Videocrypt). GME Kingray seem to be a good brand, we have a system based on this with excellent picture from TV1 (channel 1, 44 MHz) all the way up to Prime (channel 62) with a GME masthead diplexer, distribution amp and four way splitter.
Note some cheaper brands intended for the Australian market cause quite high loss at NZ channel 1 (45.25 MHz) - this was a big problem when Sky UHF started and their "installers" (the lack of understanding/knowledge of the ones I met was scary) started installing the cheapest stuff they could find. If you can't find anything closer PM me and I'll find a price; freight might be nasty though! |
