Did this with computers at school. I think the original solution posted here is the best due to the fact it stands alone without any other technology.

We had BBC micros and the old control boxes driven from the user ports back in the 1980s. Being the pain I am I decided to not read the assignment instructions and write my own program in 6502 assembly with the BASIC assembler and manually bit twiddle the VIA port. The teacher was surprisingly annoyed about this and I had to do it all again or he’d fail my technology assignment. Thus I had to do it with sanctioned tools which were Logo. Ick.

That day I learned nothing about computers and everything about the education system.
