Re: Radio Workshops....
I like the idea, but (like others) would find it a bit too far to travel (albeit not as bad as getting to Dulwich). If this is a success, perhaps one of us "northerners" would be inspired to set up something this end of the country.
I watch, from afar, with interest!

I would be a potential candidate for a northern event.

Remember when we did field service on valve TV's we only carried our toolbox into the home, and were normally able to fix the fault, the toolbox normally had all the bits needed to complete the repair. The van was for taking TV's to or from the workshop, or for new installations.TV's being normally larger than radios, I agree you would need a car in that case. I have carried radios purchased from Gerry Wells back home on the bus and train with no problems. I even carried a Yaesu FT101E back home on a bicycle. With the cost of diesel and petrol increasing having venues near public transport could become an issue in the future. Anyhow good luck to the workshop if it starts. John |

Re: Radio Workshops....
Looks like a minimum of 8 positive responses so far, so we still have a few more to go.
Will try poking a few "experts" as well, it would be nice to see a few televisions, and perhaps some military gear as well. Cheers so far - will announce some possible dates after the weekend. Sean

Re: Radio Workshops....
Hi Sean,
I would be up for this as well, but what to bring ? AR88, SX-28 or Eddystone 458 all of which will induce a hernia dragging them out of the attic ! Phil |

Re: Radio Workshops....
Excellent stuff - but why choose, all three would make worthy opponents!
Well if no-one else brings a TV, I will, how about a nice Dual Standard Stella?

Re: Radio Workshops....
I'm in, could be a good opportunity to give all the test gear a once over.

Re: Radio Workshops....
Hi all,
Your not wrong Phil, although thats my backpack portable kit when I'm chasing sota! But more seriously! I think its important that the day is of benefit to all those attending. what we take and who takes what will have a large effect on how the experts day is spent. It's important to come away having enjoyed the experience and achieved something, and hopefully a repaired unit or the knowledge to progress, at least thats my take on it. Maybe on a future occasion we could include a learning lecture followed by a workshop. a bit of pre-planning needed, just an idea! Onewatt |

Depending on the date I'd certainly be interested in coming along.

Re: Radio Workshops....
Sean,
This sounds an interesting initiative that deserves to be successful. Not sure yet whether to identify a radio to bring along to work upon or to offer my help and perhaps test equipment to others. Either way as a comparative local I would like to support such an event, so please add me to the list of people interested in attending. Thanks and regards, Richard |
