Adding Greek letters to posts.

Dare I say it, I would like an Alt code that works for lambda (wavelength) the ones listed on the net don't work, language barriers aside you would think that there would be a one system fits all (he ducks)

After changing keyboard to English (United States) I can now get Pi elsewhere but not in the Forum, I get this instead with Alt 227 π π π

Actually I am not worried about Pi myself.

I don't know of an ALT code, but you can do it this way:-

Hold down the Windows key and press ; (semi-colon).
A window opens.
Click on the Ω (Omega) symbol on the top row.
Click on the λ (Lambda) symbol on the second row.

Alt+227 in OpenOffice Writer returns a proper Pi symbol on my PC with the cursor flashing by it's right hand side, if I then highlight that symbol then right click there's no copy option at all, hitting the space bar to move the cursor one place to the right results in the nice proper Pi symbol turning into the Pi symbol that's shown on this forum when inputting Alt+227 highlighting that one and doing a right click does show an option to copy.

No lambda on the second row on my display but there's a sort of reversed one on the twelfth row and it's feint and tiny "⁁ "

The Emoji box, there's no horizontal shift just the vertical scroll.

Screen shot shows what's displayed upon pressing Windows and semi-colon then clicking the Omega sign, the top row is the first row displayed after clicking on the Omega sign.

I can reproduce that.

At the bottom of that window click on omega rather than left arrow.

That works but I can't get back to the original Emoji display that I had when I initially clicked on the Omega sign the first time round.

Cheers got that now but to be honest I find this whole business a pain, you would think that someone would have come up with a series of Alt codes that work to save having to change this and that, here's the Alt codes I found on the web for the small letter Lambda and the capital letter Lambda, they were Alt+955 and Alt+923 respectively and the respective results were "╗" "¢"

For Lamda same bad results as Lawrence when in the Forum, but out of the Forum Alt 955 works OK both with English (UK) and English (United States) keyboards.

Some 10 years ago my old firm decided to add Korean-language pages to their web site as we were starting to build up clients there. The pages were created in the UK by a Korean using a UK-spec PC with Korean fonts enabled. It was found that these pages did not display all the characters properly on Korean PCs which had been originally set up with the Korean language. We had to have the pages re-done in Korea on a Korean PC.

I do it the sneaky way. If I know I'll post using special characters I compose the post in Word. I've got both 2003 and 2010 on my PC and it's insert and add the symbol. Word 2003 gives you the codes, but that means composing in XP, saving the post, rebooting in W10 and copying. Easier to compose in Word 2010, insert the symbol, copy and past into a post.

So far I have managed the following as an example using symbols by doing the Windows key+semi-colon as demonstrated by Graham and getting them from there:

AC sine wave, find V where Vmax = 100 Volts at a frequency of 50Hz and t = 2.5ms:

V = Vmax sine ωt rad

ωt rad = 2πft rad

∴ ωt rad = 3.1415 × 2 × 50 × 0.0025 × 57.3°

∴ ωt rad = 45°

Sine 45° = 0.707

∴ V = 100 × 0.707

∴ V = 70.7 Volts......hopefully.

EDIT: Note, I enlarged the therefore symbol to size 5 to give it a bit more clarity, here's the original ∴
