Speaker Stands (From Scrap)
Last summer my step son gave me the off cuts, from his garden decking project, for our chimenea. It seemed a shame to burn good timber so I set aside a few pieces of similar length and burned the scrap.
A few weeks ago, whilst looking for the garage floor, I came across them and also an aluminium side panel from an analogue Channel 4 TV transmitter. After a lot of hack sawing and filing I screwed the bits together to produce a pair of speaker stands. The dimensions are roughly the same as my metal Heybrook HB1 stands. I've used them for several hours with my Celestion Ditton 33's sitting on top of them and the system sounds the same as with the metal ones. Construction kept me out of mischief for several hours but it didn't help me tidy the garage. However my wife thinks they look ok so it must have been time well spent. I know this is a tenuous link to our main pass time but I've submitted it as food for thought in the hope that others will look at scrap material from a different angle. John G4IJD

Those are spot on and look like they are out of an iconic design catalogue.
Good work! |

Given the original intended purpose of the wood, do you find they add warmth to the sound? Can they handle really hot jazz?

Re: Speaker Stands (From Scrap)
Julie I'm not sure about that but I was thinking of giving the end plates a crackle finish

Re: Speaker Stands (From Scrap)
I'm sure you will find that the garage is slightly tidied - there is less 'lumber' lying around.....
Nice stands SEAN
