Akai 1710 Modifications
Hi
I have one dismantled 1710 and I think it has a good chassis to use like a stereo single ended amplifier. But, I am going to use it to build a minimalist 2W SE using the Steve Deckert ideas. hmmm......something is strange .....
first of all i dont know who wrote the description of this amp circuit but... el84 are not equal of 6p15p , components in circuit have to be different EL84->6p14p 6p15p is specific and closer to EL86 (but not equal) these tubes have different conditions of work next IMVHO 6922/6n1p is bit too weak for EL84 next why power supply has so high voltage ?? IMO at least 80 V too high next for EL84 output transformer should have resistance around 5100 ohms on circuit are 9800 ohms any way probably it will work but it will be far away from excellence |

Hmmmm, can't see anything to rave about in that circuit- it's a bog standard triode driving triode connected pentode amp with no feedback. Only "odd" thing about it is the coupling network between the preamp anode and output grid. You could find something similar in a "quality" 1930s radio, though that would have used something that is ridiculously expensive nowadays for the output valve.
If you think it's good, try a Mullard 3-3 design and compare........
