Re: Need help recognising a vintage resistor
That looks like it could be an ECC83 for the pre-amp/splitter.

Re: Need help recognising a vintage resistor
The mystery burnt resistor is the rectifiers surge limiter.
Looking at the photo's in the link that Bill posted you can see that one end is connected to the mains input from the switch, the tag that that end connects to also has a sleeved wire going down through the chassis to the series heater dropper that's underneath, the other end of the mystery burnt resistor connects to pin 2 of the rectifier which is the UY41's anode, the shiny green wire wound resistor is shunted across the U series heaters to provide the extra current needed for the pre-amp/phase splitter valve heaters. Re: Need help recognising a vintage resistor
So..... it's a Pamphonic Westcott and seems to be suitably obscure.
Amp looks like UY41, 2*UL41 and something else- maybe a double triode but there's no obvious U series candidate. Looks like B9A unlike the rest and pin 9 is unused. Might be a novel use of an UCC85? Edit: After a poke round Jeremy's site, the amplifier could well be the same as the one in the 610, with ECC83 being the odd one out valve. Wonder if Jeremy knows anything? A circuit for the 610 amp might identify the resistor/thermistor? Wonder if it has anything to do with the ECC83 heater circuit?

Re: Need help recognising a vintage resistor
I'm just wondering how much of a technical background you had when you started Jack? You did say any questions just ask? [post 1]. In some ways just identifying things that look doubtful is a backwards approach, unless you are more experienced than seems to be the case. Even if all this input gets you going it may not help you to actually understand what is happening or to be able to identify individual components etc, unless you read up! Can you follow a circuit diagram for example
