Worth salvaging trimmer capacitors? (Actually IF Transformers).
At least, I think that's what these are. I'm stripping out some old boards and wondered about the efficacy of these and whether it's worth retaining them. The hardware, capacitors and resistors I can use, but I haven't delved into RF yet.

Re: Worth salvaging trimmer capacitors?
Those look like IF transformers (adjustable inductors)

Re: Worth salvaging trimmer capacitors?
Thanks chaps. Of course, shielded inductors. Thanks. I'm having isolation fun with the Magnastat!

Careful with those, I recall they have a paxolin/srbp base and when heated the pins will pull out if you are not very gentle. Sucking or wicking all solder off before attemting any 'pull' is recommended (at least by me).

Re: Worth salvaging trimmer capacitors? (Actually IF Transformers).
I would cut the old board up with the coils still in it and make each IF coil into an osciillator tuned to one of the common IF frequencies and fit any old transistor out of a modern throw away gadget in .
Some people just keep the slugs out of them if they have not been chewed up. |
