The attached excerpt (mid-1950s) provides some interesting RF triode and pentode numbers, and I think shows why the cascode was desirable at Band III frequencies, particularly when followed by a pentode mixer. On the other hand it also explains pentode use at Band I and Band II frequencies; it was noisier than a triode, but not impossibly so. The 6AK5 was clearly very good amongst VHF pentodes , but was likely too costly for use in consumer equipment.

The attached WW item (highlighted) provides interesting comment about the Brimar 13D7 (presumably quieter than the ECC83) in comparison with pentodes for AF applications.
