Default Tonbridge Audiojumble - October 7th

Just a little reminder that the next Tonbridge Audiojumble is looming temptingly on the horizon - Sunday 7th October. http://www.audiojumble.co.uk/Next Event.htm

Always a great day out!

A great day out indeed Beobloke!

Two large halls packed with stalls full of audio treasure, vinyl (new and used), spares and accessories, ample free parking, refreshments served throughout the day.

And the BVWS tables will be there overflowing with vintage audio equipment, reel to reel, turntables, tuners, speakers, amps, radios, test equipment, valves, a selection of new capacitors to restore your vintage gear and of course cans of liquid gold de-oxit.

Come and see our stand in the main hall and say hello!

I'm going to be there for the first time helping a friend sell some of his late father's collection of hifi - from the plan I've seen it looks like we'll be near the entrance. It will be interesting to meet everyone - and I'll be doing my best to not add to my collection...

Would you be showing some sort of ID james? I'll be mooching around with some pals so I'll try to find you and say hi.

Andy.

I know I'll have a wristband with my name on it - but I hadn't thought about any other ID. According to the plan I've seen we're right next to the entrance in the lobby and we'll have a big Gates turntable on the stall.

Peter [Reelguy] invited me to join the Bexhill contingent again [just the two of us]. Parking was unusually difficult on this occasion but by the time we sorted that out there wasn't long to wait for the 10-30 entrance at the lowest price level. Predictably, Peter got himself a nice Reel to Reel TR for which he has the missing heads. There was a chap selling a very good selection of Music/Audio books and I got a few including "Perfecting Sound For Ever-The Story of Recorded Music". The usual mixture of "High End" and more reasonably priced items overall, plus a Charity Sale of various bits of kit at £4 and then £3 at which point I took a chance on a NAD CD Deck that I shall attempt to resuscitate-probably with limited success.
I picked up a great HB copy of My Life In Broadcasting [Trevor Hill] very cheaply. The BVWS "Hub" had an interesting selection of equipment for sale and a gentleman on a nearby stall had some very early copies of the The Bulletin and Radiophile that I was happy to purchase. A pleasant trip out overall !

Well that's a surprise! Someone had clearly opened up the NAD 5320 and there was no "spin up". My record of success with CD machines is extremely limited, to say the least, so expectations were also low but I followed some on line advice re gentle lubrication and cleaning in the motor/CD support area and it began to spin backwards and forwards a little until, with encouragement-normal service has been resumed. I used Servisol though, not the WD40 that was mentioned. I'm really glad I went to Tonbridge now It's currently playing a fairly rough disc, that I could afford to sacrifice if I couldn't get it out, with no difficulty at all.
The only other thing that I had to do was to reconnect an earthing strap that had left a screw loose in the case.

Another great event. Mike, Jim, Debbie and myself watched a mountain of stuff on the BVWS stall quickly find new owners! Bargains galored - including a pair of Quad Electrostatics in good working order and condition which we had to let go for £250 at the end of the afternoon, as we didn't want to take them back!! Just one example of what you can find, particularly towards the end of the afternoon. Good to catch up with a few familiar faces too.

Well done again to the organisers of this large and superb meeting. It's nice to turn up just as stallholders for this one, have time to look around, chat, enjoy and not to have the responsibility of it all!

Roll on the February event...

Did anyone take any photos of the event?
It would be interesting to have seen what kind of things were on offer..

These often appear in the BVWS Bulletin but that may not be of help to you!

I had a decent enough sale and picked up a Realistic LED power meter (very Knight Rider!). I was also determined not to buy anything else, especially any top of the range Japanese turntables in a dodgy condition.

Consequently, I'd like to have stern words with the person who appears to have removed £40 from my wallet and left a slightly ropey Sansui XR-Q11 in my car boot...

Difficult parking was due to the 800 entrant half marathon on at the same time.

Another great jumble sale of old electronic equipment and parts, I picked up a Sinclair ZX81, a Sinclair Spectrum, (I do love an old computer or 2) a 60 year old suitcase (excellent condition) with a load of stuff inside, plus some other small curiosities.

I also met up with Andrew64 who gave a box of valves for free, quite a few I didn't have too so they will all get tested and catalogued into my collection, Thankyou Andrew, and while I was there I briefly met Dickie (I am guessing).

You guessed right! It was good to meet you both. Unfortunately I was under instruction to get away so I couldn't hang around and socialise.
I too thought it was a good day. All was going to plan (with no purchases!) until I took pity on a dud Leak Stereo 30 for £15 from the charity stall. That and the HMV 1122 from Andrew64 will keep me busy for the winter months.

I had a very interesting day too and ended up coming back with more gear than I went with thanks to whoever insisted I take a whole box of stuff just for the PSU that I wanted.

I think my friend also had a successful day selling his father's collection - most of the smaller bits and pieces went in the end and quite a few people seemed to enjoy rummaging through all the boxes of bits we had.

Great day out, and didn't come home with too much!
Didn't buy the Sinclair Z12, but this one was my first amplifier experience!

Hi Clint and Richard,

I've never been to an event like this so it was good to meet you both. That's good some of the valves will add to you collection Clint, I will know who to contact if I ever need a valve. I must admit I kept back a couple of 6ME10 level indicators, maybe NOS so may be worth a bit, I'll do a rough test and advertise them if any good.

I hope the HMV restoration goes well Richard, with the offer of knobs you had the set will be complete. I have other stuff I will dig out sometime and put them on offer.

I enjoyed the event very much, I did note a lot of A77s, they must be a popular machine?

I did commit a bit of muppetry - bought a BIB tape splicer to use with my Akai GX77 but should have looked closer, noticed later it was for CASSETTE tapes!!! no fool like an old fool.

Undoubtedly - production ran to nigh-on 400,000 units in all versions. A superb design, especially for the time, and still excellent, but many were badly modified and others have been thrashed within an inch of their lives, so if you are tempted, read up and choose carefully.
