Re: What is this? looks RAF?
Well done, Lawrence!
I've got one of those RDF1 units, but it's a long time since I looked inside it so didn't recognise it. Andy |

Re: What is this? looks RAF?
The second link in Lawrence's post refers to power being supplied at 80V, 2000 cycles ... Andy, if you've got one of these then you'd be an obvious candidate / intending customer for some form of 240V mains-powered adaptor, if such a thing exists.

Re: What is this? looks RAF?
Hi Gents, mention of RDF1 rings a vague bell. I believe there was an article in PW in the 50's about converting this unit; title something like "converting the RFD1". It may even have been in the shortwave of ham sections.
It may even refer to the conversion you have. Ed |

Re: What is this? looks RAF?
Any idea what the IF was as built? It might add some background to the historical VHF equipment IF discussion that surfaces here from time to time.

Re: What is this? looks RAF?
Hi Gents, tracked it down. PT in Oct & Nov 1951. It could be converted into sound and vision receivers as well as line & frame timebases if all sections of the unit were used. In its original use it was possibly an RF/IF unit.
A bit of research in PT during the 40's and 50's will reveal a multitude of units that could be converted. The ads for these units usually told what they were. Ed |
