Re: Colour matching filler from wood dust and PVA?
Using kwila (a subtropical hardwood) that I had to hand, I have just replaced the slats for a wooden bench seat that has wrought iron ends. Some of the wood used had large (3+mm) nail holes, so I did a mix of Kwila sawdust and PVA, and this time the results were outstanding!
After drying and sanding smooth, it is now virtually impossible to see where the holes were, yet I knew where they should have shown up! I have posted these results to encourage others to try making their own fillers, as I felt that my epic lack of success with cedar might have discouraged some readers from trying this means of producing a custom colour-matched result.
