Forum closing briefly for update
I will be closing the forum at 1pm UK time today (10th Aug) for a forum software update. For those not in the UK, it is about 35 minutes from the time of this post.
I estimate that it will take about 15-20 minutes, assuming there are no problems. This is an upgrade from version 3.8.7 to 3.8.9 beta 1 of vBulletin. The newer version gives compatibility with PHP version 5.5, which is needed for a server upgrade that will be happening in the next month or two. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum...n-3-8-9-beta-1 Although it is a beta release, having tested it on a development server and compared the changes in the files between the versions I am happy that it will work fine. The changes, although many, are minor and make sense with the changes in the newer PHP version (and are consistent with changes I have been making in other PHP code for the same reason). Obviously if you find any problems after the update please post them in this thread and I will take a look. |

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
I'm now getting a prompt to download an app when accessing the forum using an android tablet. Is this what you'd expect? Any idea what the app is?

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
That will be Forum Runner which I added while doing the update - see https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=108348. You can carry on without installing the app of course.

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
I'm now having to log in every time if I don't use the forum for a short time, despite ticking the remember me box.

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
I haven't had that problem, but as a suggestion try logging out (link at the top right) rather than just closing the window, then log back in again and see if you then remain logged in. I'm wondering whether the remembered cookies have changed slightly, if so logging out will delete the old ones and let you get fresh ones when you log back in.
You could also try deleting all the cookies for this website in your browser. In Firefox it's "Options" - "Privacy" - "remove individual cookies", type "vintage-radio.net" in the search box and delete them all. Please let us know if one of other of those suggestions works. |

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
So am I, and it's working fine for me too. Hopefully logging out and clearing the cookies will solve it for threeseven and anyone else having issues.
There was nothing in the code changes I saw that could affect this, however both the version number and the vBulletin license number have changed, so if either of those are in the stored cookie as part of the site identification then that could cause a mis-match. |

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
I had to re-enter my username and password on my Kindle Fire tablet and everything is working fine, thanks. I haven't tried the main computer yet 'cos it's upstairs and I'm not. Will check it later but I don't anticipate any problems.

200 x "1" votes vs 217 x "5" - and 1.28? .... hmm.
No, I don't think so - but thanks anyway. Best wishes Guy

Re: Forum closing briefly for update
I don't think you'll be prompted again, but it's easy enough to find it if you decide you want to try it out. Unfortunately there isn't a trial version, so you'll need to pay US$2 up front.
