Pye P76F Low volume
Hi,
I recently bought a Pye P76F radio for £20. I have done a quick tidy inside, cleaning and refitting valves to their clean sockets. I have identified most of the caps I need to change. the radio powers up and works reasonably well on just the internal aerial but, the volume is really low. Before I change any caps, is this low volume a feature of this radio or will I see an improvement with new caps? Any feedback appreciated and also if anyone can suggest a good source of replacement caps and valves it would be great. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Pye P76F Low volume
I doubt you will need valves. Despite what you may have heard, valves are not the first thing to change for low volume. These sets perform well and it's likely after 'recapping' it will return to normal operation.

Re: Pye P76F Low volume
Has the OP taken voltage readings and compared them with the service sheet?

Re: Pye P76F Low volume
I suggest you change one capacitor at a time and check for correct operation each time.
The capacitors connected to the anodes of V3 and V4 should be given priority. 630V axial type capacitors made from polyester or polycarbonate are available at good prices if you know where to look. |

OK, I'm working my way through the service sheet to identify them. Thanks.
