Question Can LM317T replace LM1117T?

They are both 3-terminal TO220 adjustable voltage regulators with identical
pin-outs. AFAIK the 317T is rated at 1.5A Max., whilst the 1117T(used in a
PURE Evoke 2xt)is rated at 800mA, so a 317T should be O.K., but can anyone confirm that this is, in fact, so?

Based on the info you have given - assuming that the pinouts are the same - then if stuck you would be OK.

However, bear in mind that if the regulator is operated in current limit, for any reason, or the equipment relies on the current being limited to around 800mA (during start-up perhaps?), then the LM317 could burn out a PCB track. The equipment would habve to be pretty badly designed for this to happen, though.

I have a feeling the LM317T starts to limit at 1.2 amps.
