It was working the Pioneer PDZ56OT CD player having fitted a D to A converter , but after drilling a hole in the back panel, it didn't work ,the lens had popped out of it's mounting due to the vibration ,I could see with the glue marks which way it would fit ,so fitted it gave it a tiny spot of super glue , still not working ,so don't drill the case of your CD players.

It may be worth asking on the wanted .

Er, is it a silly question, but why were you drilling a hole in the case?

It's not a silly question Nick , I was fixing the D/A convertor to the rear of the unit ,what I find strange is the lens is perfectly level all round in theory it should have worked ,it's trying but not finding focus ,therefor not spinning the disk , Mick.

Same thing happened to me about 18 months back. Pioneer too! Lens clouded up, even though I only used a tiny drop of glue. The mechanism was damaged anyway (it was a combo amp/2-cd changer someone had forced) so I wasn't too peeved. On the lookout for a scrap unit to cannibalize. Maybe you can pry off the lens and clean it? Or google the optical block number and see if there are affordable replacements.

Has some debris from the drilling got into the movement perhap's?
It's a very fine air gap for the focus motor which functions in the same way a loudspeaker voice coil.
There is'nt much torque involved and just a speck can impede movement.
Try carefully vacuuming or air blast the movement?

I am ok with the working of the laser ,focusing etc , the drilling was at the opposite end to the cd deck I am always very careful when drilling , using a rag to catch any turnings, Mick.

If I ever have to drill a hole in a piece of equipment and cannot easily remove its gubbings I use masking tape at the back of the hole position, I use several pieces all with a loop where the hole will be and thus construct a sort of tape cup. Any turnings adhere to the sticky of the tape and can be removed with the tape.

You shouldn't have used the hammer action drill
