No Apricot on the list then, that was a British PC I used in the mid-80's. Unfortunately it was not quite IBM-PC compatible although it ran Wordstar and similar software.

Electronic Dreams by Tom Lean. 'How 1980's Britain learned to love the computer'.
It think it's possible we may have had a visit from Tom Lean while he was gathering material for that book, as he was looking for a decent picture of one of the primitive machines which were the forerunners of the 'classic' 80s home computers.

Unfortunately we weren't able to help him as much as we would have liked. Since then, several people have turned up with very good, complete original examples of the machine he was looking for photos of.

A book I particularly liked reading was one I borrowed from the library about Leo, the Lyons Teashops computer. Fascinating!

A Computer Called LEO: Lyons Tea Shops and the world’s first office computer.

John
I've got that book, or rather I haven't got it any more after making the mistake of lending it out to a 'friend'. I've done this before with similar results, I never learn. Great book though!

OK,
so not exactly a PC, but how about my GEC 4070 Minicomputer?
Not a single chip any more complicated than a TTL jobbie, but originally capable of some good work, and very expensive.

That takes me back. I used a GEC 4180 running OS4000 for some time while at University. I think these were popular as nodes on the JANET X25 network at the time.
