Default Collaro Record Player

Now here's a query
Does anyone know if Collaro made a 1940s Record Player in a cabinet with a roll top lid
My old school had one and i wonder if it was a production model or specially made
I've never seen one since

Hi John
Yes I've seen that model
The one we had at school was a single player and played 78s only

They made record decks in the 1940's but the cabinet would have been outsourced or the decks bought by a company who put them in their own cabinets.

Ah thank you for the information
Do you know of anyone who used a Collaro deck and put it in a roll top cabinet?

The roll top record player that John has mentioned is a Ferguson from around 1958 fitted with the Collaro deck.
'Plus O Gram' [Margolin] marketed many add on record player units in many styles of cabinet including models with Collaro decks. J

There was a Sobell table radiogram with a roll top which had a single speed single play deck, Collaro I think, some may have had a changer

Clarke & Smith perhaps.

At school in the 50's, all of the sound equipment by C & S, Collaro decks but by then 3 speed. Even a twin deck IIRC using 2 Collaro single players.

I have seen most of the Plus-A-Grams,
However I'm just wondering if Sobell just made a 1940s Record Player with a Roll, Top Lid
I only ever remember seeing the one we had at school, never seen another one

I don't know of any Plus-O-Grams with a roll top. They always used pull-out draw type housings for their decks and these were situated underneath a flat top on which to stand the companion radio.

Hi Edward
None of the Plus-A-Grams used roll top cabinets
As you say they all used pull out drawers
Actually Plus-A-Grams were made by Margolin who went on to make Dansettes
