It's not really all in the South East David. More like North London and Wiltshire! Golborne at Warrington is an excellent source even though it's not an auction venue and Radiophile events are definetely north of Watford. Still no news on Chorley!.

Here's the news.
Loads of lots coming in, but mostly to me in Cornwall. It's going to be quite a task loading van and trailer. Plenty of variety. A run of record players and gramophones, a run of 1980s home computers (ZX80, ZX81, Spectrum, BBC B, even an Oric 1) plenty of nice old radios to include a Philco 444 People's set, an old Leak TL12, a reasonable number of valves, some old telephone equipment, and even a few grot-boxes.
Auctioneer will be me, my son Thomas in the office on the computer, churning out invoices as required. Will be able to take payment by plastic cards due to new PayPal card machine.
Will be in the hall setting up on Saturday 2nd June. Auction 12 noon 3rd June. Viewing from early morning, day of sale. Am charging 10% buyers premium, so can afford to pay a porter or two; not expecting anyone to work for nothing.
Also need someone to volunteer for kitchen duty. Making tea and coffee and selling pre-packed sandwiches and pasties. I will have the food hygiene certificate by then, so no need for helpers to have one themselves. Not much point in me trying to help out in the kitchen. I only make foul tea and I'm allergic to milk as well...
Particularly need help with holding up the lots as they are sold, and packing away afterwards. We have a five to seven hour journey to get home; don't want to be there still packing away at bed time.
Anyone who fancies helping out with portering or kitchen duty feel free to PM.
Trying to sort out the catalogue right now, but things keep popping up and needing a little re-jig to the running order. There's no point in putting a lovely thing as the last lot when a piece "of less merit" can be demoted. Should have a draft out soon. Around 300 lots. Pictures will also be out soon.
Auction is most certainly going ahead. Should be good fun. Prep work going well. I even remembered to print out and laminate the Auctions (Bidding Agreements) Act 1969, which has to be displayed by law but seldom is seen in pop-up auctions.
Still not too late for last-minute lots. Let me know if there's something you'd like to bring along and sell off. Shame to come along with an empty car? As long as I know what you're bringing, and there's not too much of it, you can bring it along on the morning of the sale.

Hot news. Will be selling Mary's Pasties. Very popular in Cornwall. Made in Grampound Road. Never been exported to Lancashire before!

It's getting a bit busy here. I have just been offered a National HRO with unusually nice power supply, paperwork, 4 coils and things like headphones, and in a proper old MoD package at that. I haven't got hold of it yet, so let's hope that does "come to pass".

I'm glad to know that it is going ahead. I was a little concerned when you said that no auctioneer was available. I look forward to it.

I cannot, however, see any mention of the sellers' premium.

In the terms of business pdf it says the vendor's premium is 15%.

Charging sellers 15% and buyers 10%. Computer doesn't have any trouble with working out 15% in a flash, but human brain much happier with working out 10% in a flash, which is important when you're bidding. I don't want to discourage the buyers. It's fun running an auction. You need to get best prices for your sellers, deliver bargains to your buyers, and pay all the costs involved, while still ending up with a few quid for the work involved. I figure all you can do is your best, and be nice to everyone as you go...

AND the CCTV system had the decency to work first time when I tested it. Things are looking up.

All sellers will receive in the post a Manifest of the lots they have entered. The letters are spending their Bank Holiday evening festering in the post box down at the sorting office, but they are all wearing first class stamps and should be with you soon. Where necessary, lot number labels are enclosed, as are directions for finding Adlington Community Centre. Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday. Thanks for your lots.

First draft of catalogue on website at www.steamradios.com and ready for perusal. Only goes to lot 201 at the moment. Working on improving that right now. The National HRO did materialise. Looking good. Now, if we could just get rid of this thunder storm so I could load some more into the van...

Second draft of catalogue now on www.steamradios.com for you. If you downloaded the first draft, before the time of this post, you will have misleading and/or disappointing descriptions of some valves. They have just arrived here and on checking I found that some are not as good as described by the seller. It's worth pointing out that we have to use the seller's descriptions in the catalogue, in general, so it's well worth inspecting the goods before purchasing. Luckily, I got hold of these before the event and checked them.

Final version of the catalogue online at www.steamradios.com however there will be some more lots arriving Saturday and Sunday. Some of them sound very interesting. The word Quad has been mentioned... In the meantime, I finally got round to taking some pictures of the Ericofon Cobra.
