Default thread was marked as "read" without me opening it

I've just had an odd experience. I did a "new posts" and the thread was there at the top of the list. I didn't open the thread in question, but the next time I did "new posts" it was gone. I did check trhat, indeed, the post hadn't been deleted.

Not a problem, just curious.

Perhaps the OP pressed the edit button after you listed the posts but before you opened the thread.
Have a look at the time stamp on the post and the status of the edited by line at the bottom and its time stamp. This will only be a few minutes after the posting time anyway.
This might give you a clue.
