Various Methods for Optimising the Pleasures of Partcipating in the Forum
It often seems to be the case that someone starts a thread and the subject is discussed, but may be pretty much talked out after a certain number of posts. Sometimes, someone else will then give the thread what I consider to be a new lease of life by letting the subject matter progress or evolve slightly.
Curiously, rather than go along with having the read continue to be productive, posts are taken down because they are 'off-topic', at which point the thread is dead. Perhaps it may be best to utilse thread titles which are not too specific and therefore allow some breadth of subject?

Re: Various Methods for Optimising the Pleasures of Partcipating in the Forum
Barry,
This forum has been in existence since 2002, and has run a tight moderation and posting style since it's inception. One of the rules mentions that thread titles should convey an accurate meaning of the thread content - I doubt that this will change. There is some latitude offered in threads, normally moderators will nudge drifting threads back on track, however there are situations where the spread is too far, then deletion or closure of threads is deemed to be best. There are of course other places where wildly deviating threads are accepted, members here are of course well within their rights to go and enjoy this sort of thing in other locations. I think given the age, and sheer number of active participants we have here, there are no real reasons to change the way of things.
