Default George Felton, Bearwood

I know a few people here will know of George Felton's little shop, I just found out that he passed away on Tuesday. A proper shop full of "stuff" and irtoften seemed he had more regulars popping into his shop for a natter than customers. A true gent.

TTFN,
Jon

Thanks for letting us know Jon. I knew George and his wife Edie well and for many years. When I worked in Birmingham I would call and see George every week for half an hour's natter in my lunch break. He would have been 90 plus I think.

I bought 16000 valves from him in the early 90s.

Very sad, as you say a true gent. My condolences to Vera.

Sad news. Another link with the old days of retailing gone.

Hi,

I never knew George, but this picture was given to me by a friend some years ago.
I hope it brings back memories to those who had the good fortune to have known him

Kind regards

Dave

A friend of ours has died recently [aged 91] same sort of character! That's a great photo Dave. I didn't know George [or even of him] but certainly people of a similar ilk! Like my former father in law, as well, these were guys of a certain generation and attitude-laced with humour.

I've printed your photo off because I think it represents the end of something much more [even] than the individual concerned. You can already imagine children asking what's that? is it a shop?

I knew that generous HP terms notice but could not quite recall the last line of
"I only work because!" . Of course google reminds me that it's

Too old for a paper round
Too young for a pension
Too tired to have an affair

Thanks for posting the picture. I'll copy it to keep as George was a good mate and I'd known him for years.

He knew exactly where everything was in that shop and it was proper stuff.

I too like his HP notice.

Does anyone know what's happening to the shop.

Jim

How many of us on here only got interested in electronics because of men such as Mr Felton and shops such as this? I suspect many.

A sad loss and may I add my condolences to his friends & family.

Sorry to hear this news, I used to visit the shop often when ever I was in the UK visiting my parents.
