Default Bush TR130 dial cord help

Got this TR130 recently, which cleaned up really well in a dark chocolate brown havent seen one in this colour before. The dial cord hasn't snapped but stretched and not moving, the tuning knob turns but the cord is slack around the drum and not moving. I have not changed a dial cord before, and this does not look an easy one. Would it be worth trying to pull this one tighter or just replacing cord. Any advice tips would be appreciated.

Usually the three rubber grommets that are for tuning cap vibration isolation have perished and gone hard, causing the tuning cap to be at a funny angle to the front panel and possibly causing the drive cord to slacken. I recall that two can be changed with some difficulty but the other one needs the reduction gear fixing to be undone and the grub screw in the gear hub is impossible to remove without the slot breaking.

Any chance of a photo? I haven't seen a chocolate brown one either. As for the tuning drive, they are one of the more difficult ones to do and as has been said check the tuning cap grommets first and replace where you can.

Good Luck !

The tuning capacitor is not seized, but the rubber grommets mentioned are in poor condition. On closer inspection the capacitor seems as though it may have dropped as it is resting on the aerial, and the tuning capacitor seems loose with up and down movement. Not looking good. May have to buy a complete radio for the chassis.

Another one hard to get a good photo, I actually thought I was buying a black one from the photos I saw. But was pleasantly surprised when I picked it up.

I am sure I managed to get a couple of the cap mounting screws out by rotating the gear until there was clearance to remove them - I think the gear is a segment rather than a complete circle. With the screws out the grommets can be changed. Alternatively there may be someone who can suggest how to undo the grub screw without breaking it - maybe there is thread lock on it, so heat might work, or maybe a special screwdriver with parallel flutes on the blade.

Thanks for your advice Ron. It looks like the really badly perished grommet is the least accesible. Where would I get replacement grommets, if by chance I managed to remove the existing ones. Have noticed if I lift the tuning capacitor the dial will operate about a quarter of the way up and down the dial.

Thanks very much for your offer Dave, I already have the trader sheet and downloaded the service manual from the radio forum. Both just give a description of how to change the dial cord. Is your service manual the same as the one from the forum.

I don't know which one is on the forum download. Mine is the Bush service sheet ref TP1630 and contains 8 pages inc rear cover. The front cover has specifications, page 2 has component layout and pcb layout with start of maintenance section, page 3 dial stringing and alignment, page 4 alignment and parts list, page 5 circuit dig, page 6 parts list continued, page 7 and rear cover parts list continuation.
I also have the manual for the Luxembourg bandspread model, which is laid out in a similar manner.

Thanks for that Ian, I've never seen a brown one. I have a navy blue one that I thought was black when I bought it. I wonder if these colours were in fact special editions. My blue one as the same type of handle construction that your brown one has.

EDIT. If I recall, the grommet size is 3/8" and the rearmost one is all but impossible to get at unless you remove the dial cord, drum and reduction gear.

The manual I downloaded off the forum is also the TP1630 version, appreciate your offer Dave. I may look for another radio to take chassis out of. If anyone has a good condition fully working chassis I would be interested, if not looks like ebay and facebook search, no great rush at the moment. Thanks all for advice.
