Sanyo DC4800k info required - UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion Forum

Hello everyone

I'm looking for a manual for a Sanyo Dc-4800k. It's a quadraphonic radiogram I think. I've tried the usual sources but have not yet found anything. Can anyone help?

Specifically I need to know the size of the turntable belt and how to get into the amplifier as there's a dead cockroach behind the dial glass!

Probably won’t show the size in the manual, just a part number. You’ll have to measure it.

OK. Sadly whilst it looks like a belt, it's totally melted and is unmeasurable. I grab a piece with tweezers and its just collapses, imagine a bit of fettuccine that's been out in the rain for 3 days!!

The time honoured method is to use a piece of string or wire to follow the path of the belt pull it tight and mark where the ends meet then measure that length.

That will give you the circumference of the belt divide that by Pi and you will have the diameter.

You will need to take a bit off as the belt needs to be under tension.

Thanks Mike, how much of a bit to be subtracted? 5%?

This is pretty much my first belt drive turntable after 50+ idler decks! nowhere near as simple as a sturdy long lasting idler wheel, not sure I can see the advantage really? this Sanyo even has a stepped spindle like a BSR and a crude deflector to move between the 2 settings on the spindle. Too many things to go wrong to my mind

How did you go with the original question - did you find a manual? I have the same unit and just bought a new belt - so if you didn't sort that out let me know and i can measure it.

I'm lucky enough to have a shop around the corner and just took the platter in and he gave be the belt - so i actually didn't measure it before installing.

I'm after the manual too if you found one.

PS -the belt was a slight stretch to go around the platter - and then more of a stretch to the spindle - so I would buy one 5% smaller than the platter unstretched

Nope, never did find a manual for the whole unit but search for "sanyo Tp405" that manual at least covers the deck

Found a helpful chap in country Victoria who sent me the right belt
